'X-Men: The Last Stand' had pair of quite strong legs to stand on over the weekend outperforming both of the previous X-Men movies. It took in an estimated amount of $103,125,000 over the weekend excluding Monday. The original opened at $54,471,475 and grossed a total of $157,299,717 domestically and $138,950,336 overseas totaling at a worldwide final tally of $296,250,053. It also had a relatively low budget for a superhero-themed film; the budget was set at around $75 million and topped out at 3,112 theatres. It was released back in July 2000.

'X-Men: X-Men United' went farther than the first one did with a worldwide gross of $407,557,613. It opened at $85,558,731 in May 2003 and went out with a domestic gross totaled at $214,949,694 and $192,607,919 in foreign countries. It also got a big boost in funding; the budget came in at $110 million. Both of the previous X-Men movies were directed by Bryan Singer, he had the chance to direct the second sequel but he was offered the chance to direct the new Superman film, which is coming out on June 30. Matthew Vaughan was originally hired to direct, but exited the set for personal reasons. The pre-production was already near competition and Fox rushed to find a replacement. They managed to snatch Brett Ratner. A filmmaker deeply hated by many movie buffs on the Internet for some reasons that I consider being deeply ridiculous.

However, I do have one big concern. It’s the enormous budget this movie was given. The movie had a budget of $210,000,000. I believe it’s one of the most irresponsible management of a budget I’ve ever come across. There is no way a movie of this scale with such a short running time that would have cost this much. They overspent and rushed this movie. It’s just insane how the movie studios has gone overboard on big budgeted films these days. People thought it was crazy for Titanic to have a budget of $200, but it doesn’t seem so crazy nowadays. It had a running time of 194 minutes while ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ ran at 104 minutes. I do think this movie has a good chance of turning a pretty profit especially on the DVD format. The DVD market is a great place to make money, a lot of movies that were flops at the theatres ended up making more money than they ever dreamed of on the DVD.

‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ is a decent movie and I did enjoy it on some levels, but no way in hell was it worth $210 million, not with all the bad and incomplete visual effects during the final 20 minutes. It’s just mind-boggling what Hollywood will do to beat a deadline these days.
