I know I haven't been writing for my blog in the last couple months. I don't expect to write on a frequent basis this month, as it will be a very busy month.
Now, let's get to the good news. According to Variety, "Jericho" will return on February 12. It will be replacing the recently cancelled TV series, "Cane". It will be airing at 10:00pm, ET/PT.
As some of you may remember, "Jericho" was cancelled once the season finale was aired earlier this year. The fans started a big campaign by sending them letters and boxes of nuts. Yes, nuts. It was a reference to the season finale.
Instead of a full season, which would contain 22 to 24 episodes, they will be only airing 7 episodes. It's mainly due to the scheduling conflicts and they already had taken down the sets at the soundstage where it was filmed. A full season requires a lot of time for script writing, building new sets, casting new actors and all sorts of preparation. It's not an easy task.
You also can read a message from the president of CBS Entertainment, Nina Tassler. Just go over to Jericho's message boards to read it or just click here to read the message.
Just to let you know, it has been reported in the last couple months that they are cutting down on the cast to save money. I can't say I'm surprised. If the reports turn out to be accurate, then most of the older characters will be gone for good. That means Pamela Reed who plays Gail Green, the mother in the Green family. It has been confirmed that Skeet Ulrich (Jake Green), Lennie James (Robert Hawkins), Michael Gaston (Gray Anderson, Mayor of Jericho), Brad Beyer (Stanley Richmond), but I don't have a word on his TV deaf sister, Shoshannah Stern (Bonnie Richmond) being in any episodes of the second season. It wouldn't be a big loss, but I'm just letting you know that she may have not made the final cut. Even if you protest, she will not be in any of the episodes. They already wrapped up on the production months ago.
Alrighty, that's all I can tell you at the moment because the information on the upcoming second season is still sketchy. I must say I'm a little surprised because there are always so many spies in Hollywood. Yet it's so quiet when it comes to "Jericho". Well, maybe we'll hear something soon.

Thanks for the heads up, Banjo.
ReplyDeleteWill be setting the DVR...
Not surprised they cut off a few characters, but I am happy that they are going to conclude the series....I hate unfinished stories...

CBS is real dumb to put "Jericho" midseason replacement show in late time slot, 10pm.
ReplyDeleteI already lost interests in network tv shows anyway. Who give any hoots about weekly tv shows?
I am kinda pissed off about Skeet Urich being possible replaced by someone else. Skeet is the main reason to watch "Jericho" along with another mature actor, ex.-mayor. I enjoy watching Skeet's brooding character.
I guess that I will not really bother to watch "Jericho" midseason television show next February in the 10pm time slot.
RLM
RLM, it doesn't matter because millions of people now use DVR (digital video recorder) and TIVO-style devices. Less and less people are now watching live TV, they are recording them instead.
ReplyDeleteI agree, 10:00pm isn't a good time slot for a show like Jericho. Though it'll have to do. Some shows do remarkably well in these time slots, like ER. So you never know.
Not everyone have the DVR!
ReplyDeleteI bought the new DVR few weeks ago. I couldn't master this DVR at all.
I am not technologically challenged myself, but could not figure out what's wrong with the new DVR. I couldn't find the manfacturer's website and ask them questions.
I rather return the DVR. I usually do not have time for watching weekly tv show anyway. More to life than watching tv anyway.
I will not bother with the Tivo or Dish DVR or cable DVR box.
I could follow instruction booklets very easily, but my DVR seems have hir own mind like the Hal 9000 computer. Aha!
I am speaking of youngsters, who did watch "Jericho" last year within the 8pm time slot. Kids and some people would not bother to deal with the DVRs. I prefer 9pm or 10pm time slots.
You have to understand the expectations and loyalty of tv viewers when any tv shows change their time slots. Viewers would not find worthwhile to hassle with the changed time slots and day of viewing.
I still do not have time to view many tv shows and other tv programmings on VHS tapes. They are still in the cabinet.
I personally like broadcast television without being enslaved to technological stuffs.
I never watch any film or tv show repeatedly. Just view them once!
The majority of Americans still do not have their DVRs or not know how to use their cable DVRs.
I wonder about if the DVR still function during the power outrages.
RLM
We're still in the transition between the old media and the new media. Like I said, less and less people are watching live TV and now are recording them on DVR-type devices.
ReplyDeleteIn 2006 it was reported that according to some statistics, around 12% of the U.S. households contain at least one DVR, up from 8 to 9% the year before and 3% in 2003. That's a big difference. I imagine it's already over 20% by end of this year at the rate they're going.
What's really interesting is that DVR owners tend to have higher levels of education and incomes, and read more newspapers and magazines. Yet watch less TV than non-DVR owners. It also means they are not willing to become slaves to the TV schedule. They make their own schedule, it's better this way.

Right now, you are being given more options on how to view movies and TV shows. DVR, TiVO, iTunes, Video on Demand and more.
It's much more liberating to set your own schedule. I have a full-time job and I have a life too as well. The only time I watch TV shows is before I go to bed. It's a habit of mine to watch at least a TV episode prior to sleeping.
I'm not willing to sit down at 8pm and go through the commercials. I prefer to be in control of my own schedule. Like I said, I do have a life.
I'm not willing to become a slave to somebody's schedule. Never again.
